Facts and information about the Library

The 72,000-square-foot Library building opened in the spring of 1998. Funding came through a locally approved bond measure, but many special features of the building were funded through generous gifts.

These include:

  • The Oregon Rooms, furnished with fine rugs and Stickley cherry and leather furniture. These upscale studying and reading areas are much enjoyed by our students.
  • The Pinckney Carillons sound the half hour and hour with Westminster tones heard across campus in sync with the clock tower time.
  • Donated by the building contractor, the beautiful slate floor of the 50-foot diameter rotunda at the entrance sets the tone for the building.
  • The rotunda has recently been equipped with 45 yards of gallery track for traveling art displays and temporary exhibits.
  • A growing collection of art items is strategically placed around the Library. The Faculty Forum and the Library work together to purchase one or two pieces of quality student art each year to add to the collection, which is then displayed in the Library and is available for viewing on the Library’s Web page.

COCC Library Rotunda

As the largest academic library east of the Cascades, the Library serves the campuses of COCC, OSU-Cascades and its partners. The Library holds carefully selected scholarly books and journals in its print collections, and has many first rate scholarly electronic databases available for faculty and student research. It also has a fine collection of instructional videos and DVD’s, a map collection, and collections of federal government documents.
